Washington Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer will join the German national team in Cologne at the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

Like forward Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers, Grubauer is expected to arrive in Germany on Saturday. Grubauer was the Capitals’ backup goalie when they lost the Eastern Conference semi-finals to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In his fifth season with the Caps he played in 24 regular-season games recording a 92.6 save percentage.

For Grubauer it will be his second World Championship after Minsk 2014. He also helped Germany earn a spot at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games posting a 97.0 save percentage while playing all three games in the Final Olympic Qualification Group E in Riga, Latvia, last September.
