Ticket demand high as ever at start of the year – fourth game day at 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship close to sell-out.

The demand for tickets to the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship (5 – 21 May in Cologne and Paris) is as high as ever at the start of this year’s World Championship. The fourth day of the World Championship at Cologne’s LANXESS arena, which takes place on Monday 8th May 2017, is also close to selling out. An absolute classic is due to take place that afternoon at 16:15 between Germany and Russia (currently the top two teams in the world rankings) followed by an exciting game between USA and Sweden (20:15).

Less than 500 tickets remain in the central seating categories 3 and 4 for this game day plus the even more attractive hospitality offers combining top seats with first-class catering in the ‘Backstage’ restaurant. Categories 1, 2 and 5 are already completely gone.

"It is no surprise that this game day is particularly popular since three of the five top-ranking ice hockey nations will be demonstrating their talent on this Monday in Cologne", explains Henner Ziegfeld, General Secretary of the 2017 IIHF World Championship, adding: "German fans are just as excited as the many members of the Russian community in North Rhine Westphalia at another of many World Championship games between the German national ice hockey team and the great Russian 'Sbornaya'. At the 2010 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, both sets of fans transformed the sold-out Cologne LANXESS arena into a peaceful and jovial ice hockey madhouse on two occasions. Who can forget how the sensationally confident German team kept the Russian team, with all of its star players, fighting for its semi-final place right up until the end?"

It is therefore rather unlikely that tickets to the games on 8th May will still be available by the start of single game ticket sales in early spring. For anyone wanting to attend this huge day of ice hockey battles in Cologne, the advice is “buck-up”!

The 13th May 2017 in Cologne is turning into something of a “Super Saturday” with three games. Germany will play in the evening at 20:15 against the ever challenging Italian team. Prior to this, Latvia vs. USA will take place at 12:15 followed by Russia vs. Slovakia at 16:15. There are only around 2,500 tickets remaining for this game day. Tickets are no longer available for category 5 on this day.

Tickets for the 64 games of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship at Cologne’s LANXESS arena and Paris’ AccorHotels Arena are available:
