Austria will go to the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with Roger Bader as its head coach. He signed a two-year contract.

The Austrian Ice Hockey Association (OEHV) extended the contract with its men’s national team head coach Roger Bader after discussions in Cologne during the World Championship. The Swiss will also lead the Sport Department of the association replacing Alpo Suhonen.

“I’m happy to continue working together in the upcoming years. I expect to continue the path we have started and to stay in the top division next year. Further staff decisions will made in the upcoming weeks,” said Gernot Mittendorfer OEHV President.

Bader took over the team during the 2016/2017 season and led it to gold at the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A in Kyiv, Ukraine, and promotion to the top division for the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.

Before being assigned to the post he worked in youth hockey and coached the U20 national team, tasks for which a successor will be searched.

“I’m glad that we could establish this close relationship. We have an important season in front of us and want to work from the beginning on our goal to stay in the top division in May 2018,” Bader said.
