The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation extended the contract with Patrick Fischer as men’s national team coach for two years.

Fischer was named head coach of the men’s national team in December finished the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with the Swiss in 11th place. Whether assistant coaches Felix Hollenstein and Reto von Arx will stay has not been decided yet.

“I thank the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation for the confidence. To be national coach is a challenge I face with pleasure. I’m extremely motivated to continue to be head coach of this team,” Patrick Fischer said.

Christian Wohlwend was named head coach of the U20 national team where he will succeed John Fust. He signed a two-year contract. Wohlwend has been working for the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation as head coach of the U19 national team and assistant coach of the U20 national team since 2011. The last three years he has also been head coach of HC Lugano’s U20 team.

Wohlwend was originally foreseen as new head coach of Hockey Thurgau of the second-tier senior league NLB but an agreement was found to terminate his contract.

“The new task as U20 national team head coach fills me with pride. I’m convinced to develop the future national team players the best possible way,” Wohlwend said.
